How can we help the victims of Japan earthquake, tsunami and nuclear trahedy?

Japan is back to the days when Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings reduced it to ashes. From ashes emerged a strong and technologically advanced nation : Japan.
But due to the recent 8.9 Richter earthquake, followed by a massive Tsunami, followed by nuclear radiation leak, my heart goes out to those who lost their everything in a matter of minutes.
Is there any way that we can help them? If so, how?

What makes the area that is Tornado Alley more prone to tornadoes than other areas?

I know WHY it’s called Tornado Alley, but why is it more prone to Tornadoes than other areas? Is it because there’s a greater expanse of flat/flatish land?
Here is a quote from the NSSL website that sums it up well, I’ll include the link to the website at the end:
"The relatively flat land in the Great Plains allows cold dry polar air from Canada to meet warm moist tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico. A large number of tornadoes form when these two air masses meet…"
