Amateur Radio operators are fully engaged to provide emergency communications if needed.
NB: "Interdictor project greatly needs transcribers and bot experts. http://wiki.interdictr.com and #interdictor on irc.freenode.net"
- EchoLink If you are a licensed radio amateur you can monitor communications in and out of the effected area here. If you have an Echolink account, use one of the reflector channels (VKEMCOMM, N5API, KC4QLP-C) and avoid the WX_Talk conference during the height of the storm, unless you are filing a report. The Interdictor gang is transcribing echolink traffic on the #interdictor-echolinkIRC channel. (VoIPWX stream,KC4QLP-C and San Antonio Hurricane Evac Operations stream)
- ARRL Hurricane Page The American Radio Relay League is the national organization for Amateur Radio. They have created a web page aggregating ham radio resources relating to Gustav.

- On the bands, the national HF Hurricane Watch Net can be found on 14.325 MHz (3.950 Mhz alternate). Here are frequencies to MONITOR when the nets become active along the Gulf Coast. Most of us can't hear the weaker portable or mobile stations on frequency so it's best to just stay in receive mode:
- Emergency Net: Daytime 7.285 MHz Night 3.873 MHz
- Health & Welfare: Daytime 7.290 MHz Night 3.935 MHz
- Texas Weather Net: 7.248

VoIP Hurricane Net Situation Report #8
Hurricane Ike Support and Activation
Posted on Wednesday 10 September 2008 @ 22:10:25
Hello to all...
We have received a number of inquiries on when the VoIP Hurricane Net will be reactivating for Hurricane Ike, which is now undergoing a potentially rapid intensification phase, and has now become a large hurricane which could affect a large portion of the Texas Gulf Coast. As of the 8 PM EDT/7 PM CDT Hurricane Ike Intermediate Advisory, a Hurricane Watch has been posted from Cameron Louisiana Westward to Port Mansfield Texas and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Cameron Louisiana. The VoIP Hurricane Net will do a roll-call from stations in the affected area of Hurricane Ike and stations that are not in the affected area of Hurricane Ike but have relays to other hams, hurricane chasers, friends, family or other contacts in the affected area of Hurricane Ike and can relay information back to our net. That roll call net will be Thursday Evening at 930 PM EDT/830 PM CDT. The VoIP Hurricane Net will likely begin formal activation some time Friday Morning and that activation could last through Saturday and into a portion of Sunday Morning. The start time of formal activation will be confirmed in an activation announcement posted some time on Thursday. The weekly VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday Evening will again be cancelled. Advisories on Hurricane Ike can be obtained via the VoIPWXNet web site by clicking Atlantic Tropical Products off the Main Menu of the web site. They can also be found at the National Hurricane Center web site at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team is preparing for a long duration activation for Hurricane Ike in the Friday through Sunday Morning timeframe. Another update will be posted on Thursday. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net! 73,Rob-KD1CY.

PRESS RELEASE
INTERNATIONAL RADIO EMERGENCY SUPPORT COALITION (IRESC)
DATE/TIME UTC: 2238 on 8th September 2008
SUBJECT: IRESC DURING HURRICANE IKE
In response to the threat from Hurricane Ike, the International Radio Emergency Support Coalition 'IRESC' is now on Level 3 Activation, meaning that a 24/7 formal net is established on the *IRESC* Echolink conference and associated HF, VHF and UHF link stations.
Because both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands are threatened, IRESC is using its English/Spanish bilingual members as Net Controllers.
Emergency nets in Cuba are now operating on 7045kHz and 3750kHz. We are told that many stations are working on battery power as little mains power is available in the affected areas - this of course means that signals are weak and even the most distant amateur operators are asked to keep very well clear of these frequencies.

For further information, please contact IRESC External Affairs Officer Steve Richards g4hpe AT iresc.org or visit our website at www.iresc.org.
Gustav - A Message from the ARRL Emergency Preparedness & Response Manager:
As of this date and time, all amatuer radio emergency communications requests for Gustav are being met with local resources. We thank all those who have shown an interest in assisting, and especially to those already assigned to this mission.
Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARESĀ®) Volunteers who have the ability to travel into the impacted areas of hurricanes and tropical storms must make their availability known to their Section Manager (SM) and/or Section Emergency Coordinator (SEC). Individuals should not directly contact the Field Organization Leadership in the impacted Sections with questions on their staffing needs. All questions should be made to their local SM or SEC.
When a staffing request is made by an impacted Section, we will transmit this to all SM/SECs. The request will also posted on this page. ARRL SM/SECs will react to the request based upon the mission assignment and the availability of their ARES volunteers. Specific details on the staffing request will be posted to include prerequisite training, experience and equipment requirements.
No ARES personnel will be accepted into the impact areas without being processed through this protocol. It is necessary that all ARES volunteers are vetted through their Section Manager or Section Emergency Coordinator prior to all deployments.
Please do not self deploy. You will not be allowed entry into the impact area.
